Dear Parents, We had a great time at the Children's Museum on Friday!! The first thing Friday morning your children and I talked about the Code of Conduct they had signed and what that meant for them in regard to the field trip. You would have been proud of them because they used good manners and behavior. The kids had a little 'rest' with some quiet music when we got back and then everyone got to say what their favorite thing was about the museum. I want to thank the parent chaperones, Kathy Mathwig, Verna Adamek and Leann Deavan for doing a very good job of keeping track of the kids and making sure they behaved properly. It's a great help to me to know that I have parent helpers who will make sure the kids are safe and follow the rules!
Our painted lady butterflies should be coming out of the chrysalides any day now. The kids are excited about the upcoming 'blessed event' We've had a wonderful time watching them go through their metamorphosis, (the kids learned about the meaning of that word), from larvae to chrysalis. Speaking of words the Word of the Week last week was triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13). This week's word is loquacious (excessive talking). Hmmmm, why would I have chosen that one for this class the last week of school? '
There isn't any spelling or homework this week. I want to focus on tying-up some loose ends in reading and math. Please know that we are continuing to work hard in first grade these last few days of school! The kids just finished their "All About Me!" posters last week. It was a longer project with a graphic organizer and lots of illustrating. They look great in the hall so stop by and take a 'peek'. We have concert rehearsals this week, too.
Sincerely, Ms. O'Connor
